how many earthquakes I have experienced. In Japan, small earthquakes are common. In the first night I spent in Japan I experienced an earthquake who awoke me in the midnight: "Oh, it is an earthquake." I fell into asleep again.

When I was studying in Japan, we had a TV in our office. Sometimes I felt small earthquakes, I enjoyed picking the P wave, S wave and surface waves up one by one. After that I would open the TV to check the news to see where the earthquake was from and its magnitude. Usually the distance from my office and the magnitude was not far from my estimation.

I do respect what PLA is doing now. Now I can say I am proud of the 1-year military experience in 1991, although not in formal service. Some of my friends asked me what I thought about the earthquake and the rescue works in China, I told them that it was a pity that I could not join the work myself. If I were in China, I might be a volunteer to join the work and it would be my great honor.
