According to my own experience. I said "probably" because I am not sure about the number 30,000. But it is absolutely true that in early 1960's many women fled from Gansu to Shaanxi. My older uncle's wife (my older aunt) was among them. She was actually the second Gansu woman who married my older uncle. The first stole some quilts and money and escaped back to Gansu after marrying my older uncle. But my aunt stayed since they got married in 1960 or 1961, until today. She was not the only case. There were many of them in those two years.
