they have BA, SA deployed to client sites to find out business process, industrial best practices. The R&D center get these feed back and based these informatnion, they will design and develop the architecture.

Local SAP offices focus on sales/marketing, customer service and customerization mostly. They focus on implementation issues by configuration client's SAP system, writing ABAP programs, and integration with client's other systems such as CRM, office automation system. They don't need have people familiar with other ERP systems. Most of their implementation project were done by big 5 before, the biggest one is PWC. So SAP doesn't have some presents at this segment neither, since by that way they avoid channel confliction.

At their R&D center, I believe they should have teams focus on competitive analysis by comparing SAP, Oracle, Peoplesoft and Siebel systems.
