There is no legal base at all for Amazon to do this, although it was said the e-copy they sold was unauthorized copy (well, I do not think Orwell can ever authorize them anyway.)
What Amazon did, revealed one hard truth: the IT equipment you purchased nowadays would have back doors that can be used against you.
