家园 you are talking about West

Canadians.

加拿大人的概念里,偷税漏税等同于偷窃别的纳税人的钱,而偷盗是极度为人所不齿的

--during my trips to Quebec, I notice that sales tax evasion is rampant in the French-speaking province. And I was shocked to see so many transactions were preferred in cash term, rather than by credit card. It does not just apply to China town.

Last time when I dined with a senior tax partner of Pricewaterhouse Coopers, he also pointed out the existence of a large "grey economy" in Canada due to the extremely high sales tax rate (Fed+Province). Sale tax evasion in Canada is as rampant as in high-VAT Europe. And it applies to both Chinese business community as well as the mainstream Canadians.

And also a high proportion of Quebecors are welfare-dependents, and certain welfare payments have been perceived as "annual rights" in their annual budget. I have zero respect to both those welfare-eaters as well as tax evaders.

bTW, high school/college education is the best place for cultural integration. But Chinese immigrants should avoid schools (such as York in Toronto and Concordia in Montreal) that are stuffed with rich spoiled Chinese immigrant kids who have zero incentive for hard work.

(here, exclude the Schulich School of York)

In those schools, you get zero cultural integration and kids easily get misled by bunch of big spenders.

One should pick schools where there is some Asian representation so that one's kids do not feel too lonely, but also there are enough elite local Canadians so that kids get sufficient cultural exposure.

U. of Waterloo falls into that category.
