Currently South Sudan oil can go through the pipeline to Port of Sudan. So as agreed, South Sudan has foot parts of construction and operation costs.
If they have to switch an alternative route, then they need to get another line to Kenya, etc. That is too much work.
After 2007, China started to build good relationships with South Sudan.
At 2008， China did consider to pass part of resources to US oils (as in Angola), but later on US oils lost interest.
