The transformation from "free-capitalism" to "government-regulated-corporate-capitalism" was actually supported by many corporation leaders, who benefited from the price regulation (and other policies) during WWI. Of course, many other capitalists hate this transformation as they did not possess the power to counter large corporations. But with the big corporations supporting FDR and US entering WW2, it might not be such a difficult job as we thought.
I'd also praise the foresight of the then leasers of big corporations.
