E's comments that the Taiwan policy being very much disastrous, and he/she thought the KMT has not been appeased enough and pumped up enough, was really amazing.

Even at the time, the idea of Taiwan Independence was already in serious decline, people on both side of the Taiwan Strait are paying less and less attention even on that issue itself. The growing sentiment is a de facto acceptance of current status, and the prospect of economic integration (we all know very well that as the economic conditions change, political and socical changes will follow). Therefore his/her defeatist sentiment was very strange to hear at the time.

And let's take a look again at the TW issue today: the topic is almost totally gone from any public forum, not because the strategic importance of the island faded, but because of the urgency of the problem is gone.
