To the Chinese posters out there: Get a grip! As you get stronger and more powerful in the world, other people will automatically try to tear you down. Nobody loves the biggest kid on the block. Accept criticism but don’t believe most of it. Why do you think other countries are always complaining that Americans don’t listen to them? After a while you tune them out and look around you and KNOW how your country is. You don’t need anyone from another country (who probably has never even BEEN to the US or China) tell you what you think or how you should act. YOU know. Buck up.

Liz is right–end the Olympics.

This eruption of Chinese jingoism is nauseating.

Liz

You quote Chinese Olympic Organizing Committee -

“And prior to the start of the torch relay, all relay participants will observe one minute of silence to extend condolences to the victims of the tragedy.”

They could have saved lots of bad press if they had similarly done earlier with a statement:

“And prior to the start of the torch relay, all relay participants will observe one minute of silence to extend condolences to the victims of Tibet.”

Oooops. This update will just slap the faces of those who consider China as “inhuman”. It’s funny that the people who has never step a foot on Chinese soil worried so much about Chinese people’ human rights on their own. And make it a big deal at a time of tragic and not showing respect for the dead and suffered. Go talk about politic at another time. This is not something the Chinese needs for now.

The above comment fits in perfectly with the view the Chinese govt has about the Olympics.

What the Chinese are learning the hard way is that you can’t play “hot shot” on the world stage without being criticized for their questionable actions. All governments deal with it. Some adjust some don’t. With always comes a price. As an American post 9/11 I should know. We got Iraq.
