Proportional representation is most popular in continental Europe. In reality, it is a big disaster, esp., when it comes to national politics.

Most Anglo-Saxon nations use plurity(simple majority) system, following UK's example. Of course, in U.S., the system went through many modifications, but plurity system was dominant in national politics, though not so in local election.

To some extent, all Anglo democracies are republic by nature and democracy by the name. If one digs deep enough, you will see that power is actually in the hand of political elites. Therefore, Anglo nations have consistency in policies and the govs. are more stable than European ones.

If China switches to democracy in the future, I hope that people are smart enough to switch to plurity system, rather than the RP system--that will destablize gov. and destroy China's dream for an empire.
