在读李约瑟的<Clerks and Craftsmen in China and The West>,在114页(Classical Chinese Contributions to Mechanical Engineering)看到这样一句:
“One can even find such contrasts in minor preferences in the field of engineering, for whenever an engineer in classical China could mount a wheel horizontally he would do so, while our forefathers preferred vertical mountings, as witness typically the water-mill and the windmill. ”
The Translator seems to have labored on this;witness the alliteration, more or less corresponding to the original schemes.
